Bag Handling Systems and Solutions |
Control and Metering manufactures bulk bag fillers and bulk
bag dischargers.
Our equipment is ideally suited to difficult applications
that require dust containment, precise weighing, maximum densification,
and for handling ingredients that are hazardous, toxic, require
sanitary handling, or are difficult flowing.

BAG FILLING SELECTION GUIDE |
|
|
Control and Metering
offers models A, A/V, B, C (Cobra) and CABR with a wide
range of capabilities. To select the appropriate bulk bag
filling machine, you need to identify the base model and
then choose the options and accessories required for optimal
operation. To select the base model you need to know the
following:
1. What is the ingredient and its properties?
Generally, free-flowing, non-dusty granular products, with
heavy bulk densities will produce a stable, well filled
bag more readily than products which are fine, dusty and
of light bulk densities.
If the ingredient is very poor flowing and tends to get
lumpy, clogs, or interlocks (e.g.: barium carbonate, zinc
oxide, wood chips, fiber, plastic scrap). Models or are
appropriate machines because they provide tamping and densification
features. However, if the ingredient is free flowing like
sugar, salt, plastic pellets, or pebble lime, Model is suitable because tamping and densification
are not required. Model offers some vibration for bags which need
limited compacting. Model
suit ingredients which flow reasonably well but still have
a tendency to bridge. There is some overlap in the model
and ingredient match, as seen in the chart below.

2. What are the characteristics of the bag being filled?
If the bag weight is under 2500 lbs, Models A, and B are recommended.
If the bag weight exceeds 2500 lbs Model C, or C/ABR should
be selected.
3. How tall is the bag being filled?
If the side seam is up to 55", then Models A, and B are
possible selections. If the side seam height is taller, then
Model C or C/ABR should be considered because tall bags need
to be well densified to be safe and stable.
4. Does the filling machine have to weigh the bags?
Model A has no weighing capability, all the other Models
do. Model A/V does offer weighing, but does not use the optimal
hang weighing configuration employed in Model B and C. Model
A/V has load cells under the filler legs.
5. Do the ingredient characteristics indicate tamping or
densification to achieve a well filled bag?
Models B, C, and C/ABR have tamping and densification features.
Model A does not. Model A/V employs a vibration grid table
which delivers limited compacting.
7. Is automatic filled bag removal required?
The Model A/V and C/ABR all can incorporate automatic
bag removal. The Models A and B utilize a fork lift/pallet
truck for bag removal.
8. What is the budget?
Model A being a simpler filling machine would be least
costly overall. Model A/V represents a low cost solution to
ingredients which require some compacting, weighing and automatic
bag removal.
Table 2
below should assist in making an appropriate selection.

The ingredient properties can then be identified in conditions
close to the site parameters using appropriate bags, fill
rates, etc. If testing is not possible, Control and Metering
have a substantial body of data and experience to advise on
the proper selection.
If one or more of the following conditions prevail, consult
the factory.
1. The ingredient is explosive
2. The ingredient is lighter than 15 lbs per cu ft.
3. The customer plans to install an automated bulk bag handling
system
4. The ingredient is toxic.
