For many years, suppliers and manufacturers have used metal
portable bins, and more recently polymer bins, to store and
transport dry materials. These bins are predominantly used
where tracking of batches is a primary requirement. While
these mass-produced bins have become standardized in sizes
of 50, 75 and 100 cu. ft capacities, they all share one inherent
problem:
Difficulty in discharging powders by gravity action
alone.
This problem is magnified if the powders have been sitting
in bins for long periods of time. Some manufacturers have
attempted to resolve this obstacle with the development of
"front dump" bins and equipment to tilt the bins
at severe angles or, in some cases, invert the entire bin
in an attempt to shake product free. But, none have truly
proven to be effective enough to justify the high costs for
the purchase and operation of them.
Responding to this dilemma, Metalfab has designed a "Portable
Bin" Unloading Station that incorporates the tried, tested
and proven technologies of our unmatched Bin Activators. Our
Metalfab Portable Bin Unloading Station is fabricated with
a rugged steel framework that is mounted on vibration isolators.
The top of the platform features four corner guide locators
to assist forklift operators in properly positioning the bin
for product discharge. In the center of the platform there's
a cylindrical tube that has the same diameter as the portable
bin outlet. When a bin is set in place, the unloader's cyndrical
flanged tube and sponge elastomer seal engages the lower flange
of the bins outlet gate and compresses the elastomer seal,
preventing any leakage of the product.
The Metalfab Portable
Bin Unloading Station is driven by a unitized vibrator that
supplies vibration in a horizontal plane only. Once the outlet
gate is opened, the vibrator transmits a gentle stimulus that
starts the flow of the product. This vibrator prohibits segregation
of product and assures the user of first-in, first-out flow
as well as constant bulk density of product as it leaves the
bin.
When continuous processing is necessary and the portable bin
is required to supply product to a feeder with a non-interrupted
flow, the unloader can be supplied with an integral surge
hopper. The hopper vibrates with the unloader assuring flow
from it. These hoppers can be configured to hold a minimum
10 minute supply of product, permitting the operator to replace
an empty tote bin with a full one.
